ESG and Credit: How carbon constraints could impact the creditworthiness of the coal sector.
Time: 10am - 11.30am
The Environment Protection Agency has just proposed new carbon emission rules which it says will lead to a 27 per cent reduction in coal production for US power generation by 2020 while coal prices could fall by 17 per cent. In light of continuing carbon constraints, we examine the key findings of a new report published by Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, in collaboration with Carbon Tracker and Aviva Investors, into how an accelerated reduction in global demand for coal could put the sector’s business model and its creditworthiness at risk. The concept of stranded assets and 'unburnable carbon' will be explored as well as how mainstream investors are starting to factor these and other ESG issues into their credit analysis and investment decisions.
Speakers: Adeline Diab, Aviva Investors: James Leaton, Carbon Tracker: Michael Wilkins, Standard & Poor’s.
