1. Electronic Health Records in Schools
This session will provide advanced information on the laws, policies and regulations governing health-related documentation in the schools and make the case for dedicated student health office software.
2. Violence and Workplace Bullying in Hospitals and Health Care Settings: “It’s Not Part of the Job!”
Faced with intimidation, bullying, physical violence and other destructive behaviors from patients, families and co-workers, this session offers strategies to overcome violence in the workplace including how to work together to eliminate bad behaviors.
3. What to Do After You Dial 911 – Managing Community and Situational Emergencies
This session explores challenges of health care professionals in situations where stabilizing the patient and controlling the environment once the emergency call has been made is critical.
4. Emerging Infectious Diseases
This session offers data on the most recent trends and patterns of infectious diseases being reported in schools and communities throughout New York state with discussion on precaution and prevention.
5. Union 101 for Health Care Professionals
Recognize the value of union activism as well as influence local leadership on challenges and problems health care professionals address in the workplace that are specific to their profession: confidentiality, patient safety, ethics, workplace safety, and substance abuse are examples.
6. Interdisciplinary Approach to Safe Patient Handling Assessments
This session will examine a team approach to assessment with Safe Patient Handling programs. We will take a look at why "nursing" and "therapy" think differently and how to move in the same direction when it comes to transfer assessments and safety. Discussion will include who can and should complete assessments while working in a team approach.

7. Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Electronic Health Records – But Didn’t Know to Ask!
This session is an update for nurses and other health care professionals on the use of electronic health records, what experience shows to date and how EHR will impact the work of the health care professional in the future.
8. Safe in the Streets: Personal Safety Practices in Community Nursing
The personal safety of nursing and other health care professionals is at risk in community health when services must be provided to address high crime neighborhoods, unpredictable patient behavior, and personal safety. This session focuses on practical tools to use in these three areas.
9. Emergency Preparedness – The Role of the School Nurse
School nurses provide leadership in emergency preparedness and management as a critical member of the school team that develops emergency response procedures.
10. Occupying, Rallying, Voting: Members Get Active in 2012!
As health care professionals and as unionists, from Wisconsin to Wall Street, nurses have been deeply involved in the remarkable political activities of the past year. In New York as in every state nationwide, the 99% continue to be told that there is no money for our human needs. Join us for a workshop debunking that myth, highlighting the work we have been doing and learning what we can do in this exciting election year.
11. Compassion Fatigue – Resources for the Health Care Professional
Nurses suffer from compassion fatigue which results in taking on the emotional burden of their patients' suffering. This session focuses on identification and care strategies for self and others that prevent compassion fatigue from taking its toll on the health care worker and their patient.
12. Safe Patient Project
This session provides an overview of the Consumer Union's Safe Patient Project as a resource to eliminate medical harm in the health care system, including drug safety, accountability, and consumer protections.

13. Electronic Health Records for Community Nursing
This session will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of electronic health records in community nursing, moving from written formats to electronic, HIPAA considerations and the use of telehealth programs with discussion about efficacy and patient outcomes.
14. School Nurses Role in Working with Bullies and Victims
Nurses have a pivotal role in caring for students who are impacted by bullying behavior. When bullying occurs in school, nurses are often a key adult both the victim and 'bully' go to for help. Learn how to have an impact on assessing, planning, and aiding in the coordination of prevention, intervention and postvention services/care for victims and perpetrators of bullying behavior.
15. Drug Abuse Trends in Schools and Communities
For health care professionals working in schools, recognizing the signs and symptoms may be either involved in abusive/addictive behaviors or have some type of behavior going on at home is critical to communicating to students, parents, caregivers and administration.
16. It’s All in Your Head: ENT Update on Student Hearing and Language Disorders
Health care professionals working in schools are on the front line to call attention to hearing and speech disorders. This session provides an update on the ENT assessments, common disorders and assessment techniques.
17. "HELP! What to Do with the Teen in My Office!" - Teen's Intimate Relations and More
Health care professionals are often challenged with working with teens. This workshop has a dual purpose: to frame foundational developmental theory about teen issues like identity, gender, emotional regulation, defenses, and acting out; to recognize the knowledge/experiences of the school nurse role to work in a small group/large group format to apply theory to daily practices.
18. Use Your Voice: Become a Health Care Lobbyist!
Health care professionals, especially nurses, must advocate for affordable health care and for policy and regulation changes that protect patients while preserving professional standards of practice. It takes skill and knowledge to become an effective grassroots lobbyist.
