Provider Directories: California's Path to Increased Accuracy

Summary

With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) California experienced a significant increase in health insurance coverage, which resulted in millions of Californians seeking information on provider networks. In response to the perception that provider directories did not always include accurate or detailed information for consumers the Legislature passed SB 137 (Hernandez) in 2015, which added new requirements on health plans and providers. In addition to SB 137 the Department of Managed Health Care has been working with health care stakeholders on improving the accuracy of directory information. For health plans there continues to be a need not only for accurate provider information but more user-friendly directories can help transform the experience and functionality for consumers, providers, and plans. Come hear the latest on the development of the statewide provider directory utility and how challenges are being met and improvements implemented. Learn how plans, providers, regulators, and other stakeholders are working together to build more accessible and accurate provider directories.
