The Radiation Emergency Medicine (REM) course is a 3½-day course that emphasizes the practical aspects of initial hospital management of irradiated and/or contaminated patients through lectures and hands-on practical exercises.

The course begins with a discussion of the fundamentals of radiation physics, radiation detection/measurement/identification, prevention of the spread of contamination, minimization of radiation dose to patients and providers, and the role of medical/ health physicists in caring for contaminated patients.

Other topics include early evaluation and treatment of acute radiation syndrome (ARS), acute local injuries, and combined injuries. Introductions to common sources of ionizing radiation and pre-hospital and hospital preparedness are discussed.

The REM course is intended for physicians, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners, nurses and pre-hospital providers. First responders/receivers, emergency management/planning, radiation safety and public health professionals may also find the course

All completed registrations are in pending status.  Registrations will be reviewed by REAC/TS and you will receive a notice of acceptance to the course or placement on the waiting list.
