This session will help equip educators with the knowledge and practical strategies needed to bolster the learning and engagement of students in poverty. Gorski draws from decades of research to deconstruct popular myths, misconceptions, and educational practices that undercut the achievement of low-income students. He then carefully describes the challenges that students in poverty face and the resiliencies they and their families draw upon. The session will also provide specific, evidence-based strategies for teaching youth by creating equitable, bias-free learning environments.

Audience: administrators, teachers, and school leadership teams are highly encouraged to attend together
