Donnel Stern, PhD

An online lecture taught by Donnel Stern, PhD, a faculty member of our Luminary Series, which explores the concept of unformulated experience and identifies dissociative experiences as a subset of unformulated experience. The lecture explores unformulated experience as a process of emergence and introduces the concept of relational freedom, tying it back to how it affects clinical practice.

Specific learning objectives:

Upon completion of this course you will have a working knowledge of:

1. Describing the concept of unformulated experience and how it differs from conventional understanding of unconscious process.

2. Describing the concept of dissociation and some of the ways in which thinking in this way shapes clinical work.

3. Identifying what is relational freedom, and how thinking this way affects our understanding of clinical interpretation.
