Herb Smith has served as President of the Los Angeles Mission since November 1, 2006. Herb served the Mission from 2001 through 2006 as Chairman of the Board of Directors.  After a few years in Brazil, Herb was no stranger to witnessing poverty, and was deeply moved when he saw the same poverty on the streets of our own nation. Smith served as the Mission's Chief Financial Officer from 1998 through 2000, before accepting the position of Chief Operating Officer for At. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. Over 20 years of nonprofit experience with Wycliffe Bible Translators and Vanguard University has provided Smith with a strong foundation for his duties as President of the Los Angeles Mission.

Steve Samuelian, CEO, California Consulting LLC, has held various leadership posts during a career spanning over 34 years. Steve was born and raised in the L.A. area and began his political and civic involvement in Los Angeles in 1982. In January 1995, Steve was appointed as Field Director for Congressional District 19. He was later promoted to District Director overseeing the 19th Congressional District Office staff and District operations for the Congressman, where he served in this capacity for 8 years. In 2002, Steve was elected to the California State Assembly representing the 29th Assembly District. He was appointed to the Assembly Appropriations Committee by the Speaker and served as the Vice-Chairman of the Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee. Currently,  Steve is the Co-Chair of the USC Unruh Institute Ambassador Programhttp://dornsife.usc.edu/unruh/ambassador-press-release/ and is elected to the Board of Directors of the L.A. County Business Federation (BizFed) where he is an elected Executive Committee Member serving as an Officer for one of the largest business organizations in the U.S.


A tireless worker for Armenian-American issues nationwide, Steve has traveled twice to Armenia. He traveled as an international election observer as part of the Office Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) delegation to observe the adoption of Armenia’s first Constitution and later as part of a U.S. Congressional Delegation. He received the Armenian National Committee (ANC) Western U.S. Award for Outstanding Leadership. Steve has served on the Board of Directors of a Chamber of Commerce, a County United Way, and a Crime Stoppers organization. He has also been quoted in national, state, and local print and electronic media outlets regarding a variety of public policy issues.

Steve Samuelian founded California Consulting, LLC in 2004. California Consulting quickly established a reputation for hard work and a commitment to success for its clients. California Consulting is the state’s largest grant writing company.

 AJ King brings more than 20 years’ experience in public health and grant proposal development. As a trainer for more than a decade, Mr. King has developed curricula and engaged a variety of audiences ranging from public health officials to community level providers. As Senior Trainer for The Grantsmanship Center he delivers the Grantsmanship Training Program, Essential Grant Skills and Competing for Federal Grants plus other customized training.  Mr. King is principal consultant at his Los Angeles-based consulting practice which offers organizational development and guidance for capacity building projects. Specific grant work includes proposal writing for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of State, California Department of Public health, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and many foundations. He has served as a proposal reviewer for San Francisco, Alameda and Los Angeles Counties in California.

 David Marquez is a consultant focused on developing capacity building and community development related services on behalf of non-profit agencies, local government, and the private sector to serve the diverse communities of Los Angeles.  Prior to joining California Consultants, he served as the Executive Director of several non-profit agencies where he focused on building collaborations and cross-institutional partnerships, both formal and informal, between schools, the private sector and community based organization to increase the social and economic capital of families in Los Angeles County. Previously, he served as Chief Deputy of Legislation and Policy for former Los Angeles Councilmember Mike Hernandez, where he managed the legislative and planning staff. He began his career as a community organizer, nearly twenty years ago in East Los Angeles. He considers his experience and education as a community organizer as the foundation of his present work.

With a deep understanding of organizational capacity needs, Pamela uses her strengths in research-based methodologies and learning strategies to oversee CNM projects and deliver quality education and support to clients. She has spent her career designing programs that inspire, motivate, and achieve social good. Pamela previously managed operations and programs with the Roy & Patricia Disney Family Foundation, and served as Senior Manager at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, where she led leadership development and civic engagement programs for the Southern California Leadership Network. Pamela holds an MS in Applied Organizational & Consumer Psychology from USC and a BA in International Development Studies from UCLA. She was an IGNITE Fellow at NYU’s Robert Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
