Dreaming of Hawaii or planning a trip? Here’s your chance to explore Hawaiian culture through the eyes of someone of Hawaiian descent as she shares her love for Hawaiian language, culture, and traditions. Choose to attend all three class (use this registration page), or register for less than three (by following the link to the individual event registration pages). Class One – Hawaiian 101, Language, Traditions, Planning a Luau | Mar 31 | Learn the basics of Hawaiian language, alphabet and familiar words, phrases, and definitions. Compare Hawaiian traditions and current lifestyle to that of the mainland. Begin the process of planning a luau. Class Two – Island Drumming and Dance | Apr 7 | Learn basic rhythm on drums and play tuirre sticks (Hawaiian instrument). Get moving with an easy dance called, “The Huki-lau.” Then take turns drumming and dancing. Class Three – Authentic Hawaiian Cooking & The Luau! | Apr 14 & 21 | Prepare real recipes from Hawaii using ingredients from local grocers. Lomi Salmon, Coconut Pudding, Kalua Pig ... Perfect “kau kau” for the luau next week! Wear your leis and Hawaiian prints! Practice your drumming and dancing at the luau, and sample some Hawaiian cuisine. A full refund is issued to participants if the university cancels an event for any reason. You may also choose to cancel your registration at least 5 business days prior to the start of the event for a refund event fee, minus a $5.00 processing fee.
