Come play in our sandbox and earn 2 hours of
professional development training per workshop. Each
workshop will include a make and take math activity.

What Does Early Childhood Math Look Like?

Using the milestones of child development and the Early Childhood Environment Rating
Scale, we will explore the many appropriate math concepts for young children. Ideas for
using math trade books and resource books will be shared.
Math Around the Early Childhood Classroom

Math experiences in the preschool classroom happen during transitions, routines and
throughout the daily schedule. This workshop will focus on the continuum of teacher
behavior and intentional planning for math experiences to include in learning center areas.

This workshop will explore an effective teaching sequence for introducing measurement skills
and concepts to preschoolers. Levels of geometric thinking will be shared as well as
meaningful and relevant ways to collect and represent data with young children.

Fun ways to assess children’s understanding of math concepts will be addressed. Strategies
for embedding assessments during the daily schedule will be shared. Next steps to guide
instruction will be discussed.
