The Supreme Court will hear a number of cases this Term in the civil justice arena that will likely have far-reaching effects. Notable questions include: whether an arbitrator or a court decides whether a precondition has been satisfied in a multistage arbitration agreement; if a parens patriae action by a state Attorney General is considered a “mass action” under the Class Action Fairness Act; and whether a foreign parent corporation can be sued for human rights violations in the United States based only on the contacts that a subsidiary has with the jurisdiction. Also pending before the Court for potential review is a case involving duplicative False Claims Act claims against businesses. The panelists will each discuss the background and importance of a number of cases before noting the possible routes the Court has for making a decision. Please join us for this insightful discussion beginning at noon. Hill Country Barbecue will be served. Please RSVP as space is limited.
