The Washington State Coverys Learning Collaborative provides an opportunity for organizations throughout the state to discuss state recommendations to include shared decision making in the informed consent process as well as share processes, problem-solving, and data to support successful implementation. As a key component of patient-centered care, shared decision making provides a process for clinicians and patients to work together to select tests and treatments. Washington State RCW 7.70 provides additional protection for providers in the informed consent process by including shared decision making as an alternative to the standard form. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) directs shared decision making be used in certain specific diagnosis.
