Six critical KPIs to measure operational performance of a plant

Following some 15 years of observing and improving process operations in upstream oil and gas facilities, ABB has identified the top three symptoms suggesting poor underlying processes and the top three results of sub-optimal process behavior. Together these six key performance indicators provide a snapshot into the overall health of a plant.

With today’s low oil prices, it’s important to squeeze out more value from every dollar spent. By monitoring and analysing these KPIs the operators can identify and implement low risk – high value improvements to the operations. Process performance improvement can significantly improve the bottom line of the oil companies. Typically, 3 to 5 percent increased production is achievable, translating into about $35 million extra earnings annually for a platform producing 50,000 barrels a day at $50/barrel.
