SKAGIT: The Accidental Grantwriter

If you’re working or volunteering in the nonprofit sector, odds are you’ll find yourself working on a grant proposal someday. You might even inherit the responsibility of writing all of your organization’s grants – a prospect that can feel overwhelming, risky, or uncertain. This workshop will teach you about the proposal lifecycle, from research to submission, and how to develop a strong grant writing plan. You’ll also have a chance to practice writing the key components of the workshop. During this day of experiential learning, we’ll cover the following topics:

  • Finding grant leads and creating a grant writing plan
  • Describing your organization’s history, mission, and strengths
  • Describing the need for your program
  • Developing strong goals and SMART objectives
  • Creating a realistic work plan and timeline
  • Demonstrating your program’s success through outputs and outcomes
  • Monitoring and reporting on your program
  • Describing your plan for sustainability
  • Developing grant budgets

There is a networking breakfast for Northwest Harvest partners prior to this event.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This workshop is designed for nonprofit staff or volunteers who are grant ready. This means that you are writing a grant for an entity that can receive funds, usually a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. Your organization has a mission, budget, and clear sense of what it is trying to achieve. You have a defined project for which you are raising funds. Here is a Grant Readiness Checklist to help you decide if you are grant ready.
