| | The Second Generation Finds Its Voice
As we gradually lose the eyewitness generation, descendants of Holocaust survivors can offer unique testimony to the profound impact their parents' experiences have had on their own lives. Mindy Weisel's identity as the child of survivors -- her parents survived Auschwitz and welcomed their only daughter while living in the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp just after World War II -- has formed the backdrop for her life as an artist and author. Weisel, author of Daughters of Absence: Transforming a Legacy of Loss, will share her story and discuss the pivotal role that the second generation can play to ensure remembrance of and teaching about the Holocaust. |
