Spring Seminar on Emergency Medicine 2011
Dear Colleagues
On behalf of this year's SSEM Organising Committee, I invite you to join your colleagues for the first SSEM to be held in Tasmania.
For those of you more used to living with the environmental extremes on mainland Australia and New Zealand, Tasmania in spring time will be a delightful place to visit - and where floods, cyclones, earthquakes and severe droughts are only something we see on the TV news from the rest of the country!
The Horizon Speech will take you on a voyage to one of the most remote places to practice medicine on the planet. Then follows a terrific program where we've tried to accommodate many of the suggestions from last year's SSEM. We are planning workshops and presentations covering such diverse areas as:
Retrieval Medicine
Ultrasound guided procedures
Beginning and End of life in the ED
Emergency Dermatology
Sports Injuries
What's new, relevant and important in the ED literature
Quality, Safety and Risk Management in the ED
Psychiatric emergencies in rural and remote locations
Advanced suturing techniques . . . . and much more!
The venue is the beautiful Country Club on the rural outskirts of Launceston (one of Australia's oldest cities with fascinating history and architecture). The rest of Tasmania is only a short drive away with easy access to historical villages; and not very far to the cool climate vineyards of the Tamar valley, the unspoiled beaches of the east coast, the snow on Ben Lomond, the "Gourmet trail" to the north west coast, or the spectacular mountains and lakes of the highlands. You will appreciate why we live and work here!
So leave the insect repellant at home, pack a jumper or two and come and join us for a memorable Spring Seminar with an extra touch of Tasmanian hospitality.
