Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Sydney and Cairns organising committee, you are invited to join us in Far North Queensland for the annual Spring Seminar on Emergency Medicine, to be held in Port Douglas this September.
September is a wonderful time to visit the tropical north, with warm days and cool evenings. A great break from the chilly southern winter.
The program will focus on requests from previous conferences as well as utilising some of the great local speakers and their knowledge. Both workshops and presentations will be clinically relevant with information that can be carried back into every day practice. Topics include:
- Indigenous health
- Diving & hyperbaric medicine
- O&G emergencies & an STI update
- HIV update
- Paediatric toxicology and decontamination
- Emerging drugs of abuse
- Splinting and soft tissue injury management
- Airway simulation
- Ophthalmology & ENT workshops
- MOPS skills stations
The Horizon Speech will be about all things deadly in the marine world, by one of our internationally recognised local experts. It will be held, we think rather appropriately, surrounded by native (non-deadly) flora and fauna. It should appeal to all the family.
All this will be held at the Sheraton Mirage in Port Douglas, adjoining the famous four mile beach and a short walk from the centre of town. There are a multitude of excellent restaurants, cafes and bars in Port Douglas and you will only be a stone's throw from the beautiful Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge and the Great Barrier Reef. The program allows for plenty of time to explore the beauty of FNQ. The conference dinner will be held by the beach, under swaying palms with shoes entirely optional.
Following on from the main conference there will be the North Queensland Emergency Medicine conference, which this year will be a single educational day taking advantage of our location and will be held on a boat trip out to the reef. There will be an educational component as well several dives/snorkels guided by local experts and lunch on board.
Hopefully you will join us, and come to understand why we choose to battle the wet season and the odd cyclone to live in what is otherwise a little corner of paradise.
