Whether teaching face-to-face or online courses, large introductory lecture classes or small, specialized seminars, faculty know that the more students are engaged with the material, the more successful learners they will be. How do we define and recognize engagement, though? More important, what can we do as faculty to foster student engagement in and outside of the classroom?
Over the course of four weekly meetings, we will discuss these questions and how best to improve student engagement and increase active learning. All participants will receive a copy of Student Engagement Techniques (2010) by Elizabeth Barkley.
