Using the Communicating Styles Survey, participants in this one-day workshop will pinpoint their own communication styles in favorable and stressful conditions and gain an understanding of others’ communication styles and how those affect interpersonal skills. We will practice strategies to become more flexible between styles. Participants will also learn how to apply a mutual learning mindset as well as key strategies for increased conversational capacity to help navigate challenging communication dynamics.

Objectives:

  • Identify your own communication styles in favorable and stress conditions
  • Develop flex strategies between styles for effective communication
  • Distinguish between using "mutual learning" techniques compared to "unilateral control" techniques
  • Describe specific strategies for conversations that increase engagement and decrease unproductive behaviors

Target Audience

State and local leaders and staff in public health, health care/population health, partner agencies, related fields and non-profits.
