Supporting & Serving the LGBTQ Population

This advanced special populations training spans one (1) day and is specifically designed for direct service staff of a children's advocacy center.

Participants will explore key concepts, terminology, and values of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) population; skills necessary to discuss and assess sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression; and practices that foster a supportive environment. The curriculum focuses on providing culturally responsive care to LGBTQ youth and families.

Format: This interactive program includes lecture on and discussion around current research and best practices, hands on activities, and role play.

October 25th 8:30am-4:30pm

Prerequisites: Current employment with or contractor of a local children’s advocacy center in the state of Texas as a direct services provider. *Priority will be given to applicants who have completed the first component of core curriculum for their discipline (i.e. FI Block I, FA 101, etc.).
Approval Process: Registering for this training does not guarantee acceptance.* Applicants will be notified of their final registration status at a minimum of three (3) weeks prior to the start of the training.

*Offering quality, professional training in a classroom environment is a key priority for CACTX. We feel this format is the most conducive to effective learning as it allows for small group activities, one-on-one coaching, and ample opportunity for Q&A. However, given the inherent size of classroom training, we have to carefully manage the registration process. Our goal is to ensure that participants have timely access to the training offerings they are in need of in order to do their important jobs effectively. In reviewing registrations, our process is to assess both the registrant CAC’s needs as well as the registrant’s completion of course prerequisites.
