The Australian Government has announced a $68.8 million Alternative Pathways to the Trades Pilot (the Pilot) in the 2013-14 Budget.
The four-year Pilot will develop and test alternative trade and technical skills training models in a considered bid to find responsive, adaptable and scalable approaches to addressing skill shortages in high-demand sectors. While traditional apprenticeships are, and will remain, the key path to trade qualifications, the Pilot aims to support demand-led (employer or industry-driven) projects which trial innovative training approaches and deliver alternative means of securing skilled workers in high-demand trade and technical occupations.
