The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and its supplements are the source documents when contracting with the Federal Government. This workshop is the forum for both the government and industry personnel to understand its underlying principles, learn roles and responsibilities of the players, and develop the necessary skills to navigate through the FAR’s variable rules, constraints and flexibilities.
Through scenarios, this fast-paced and interactive workshop will teach participants how to identify issues and apply relevant provisions, processes and procedures to them. Our participants not only become versed in “speaking the FAR”, but also in maneuvering though its provisions.
Key components covered include:
- Where to Find and How to Keep Up with the Regulations
- The Rule-Making Process
- Competition & Acquisition Planning
- Contracting Methods & Types of Contracts
- Socio-Economic Programs/ Small Business Programs
- General Contract Requirements: Legal & Financial
- Special Categories of Contracting
- Contract Management
- Implementing Clauses —applicability and risks
And Learn to Find Answers to Key Questions:
- What are the origins and bases for certain rules, processes, and contract provisions?
- How is the FAR organized -- interrelationship between its Parts?
- What solicitation Provisions and Clauses do I use or should I expect in solicitation? A contract?
- Why and under what circumstances do I use this Provision/Clause?
- What does the Clause or Provision actually say?
- What are the expectations of the government and the risks to industry?
- How can knowledge of the FAR best be used for business success?
How well you navigate the FAR and apply the rules relies on the skills of your instructor, adequate tools, and your participation. PCI’s Workshop facilitator, Gary B. Zura, is a Certified Professional Contract Manager (CPCM) and is an experienced practitioner in the contract management profession. The Workbook, which explains by topic what the FAR “means”, was written exclusively for PCI. Additionally, a FAR Desk Book is provided to the participant for use in the classroom and at home.
