THE LASER CUT EDGE

Florida A & M University’s (FAMU) School of Architecture will offer a 4 day mixed media fiber art workshop taught by nationally and internationally recognized quilt artist, architect and teacher Valerie S. Goodwin.  The workshop will provide cutting edge experience with laser cutting technology as a way of creating art quilts. The workshop will be held on the campus of Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, FL

Come learn how to laser cut fabric!  Experience the totally new possibilities of creating a work built up of laser cut surfaces with transparent & opaque properties. Create small “Art Quilts” comprised of the laser cut samples. (Within the machine’s 1′ x 2′ dimensions) The laser cutter can not only cut, but it can score and etch! Some materials will be provided as part of a kit, but you should bring own fabrics as well. A variety of techniques will be demonstrated and experimentation will be encouraged!

FAMU has a great workshop space where students will work with the laser cutter. Also provided is a separate, secure and air-conditioned studio space where students can work and get further instruction and critique from the instructor, Valerie S. Goodwin.
