According to the American Humane Society and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 68% of female victims of domestic violence reported violence towards their animals– 87% of these incidents occurred in the presence of the victim and 75% occurred in the presence of children to coerce and control them. This training will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to detect, intervene and protect both animals and domestic violence victims. During this training, attendees will learn: • How to identify animal neglect and abuse • Interviewing techniques to facilitate the disclosure of both animal and human abuse • Tactics abusers use around animal abuse and domestic violence • Safety planning when pets/animals are involved in the abusive relationship Presenter: Melanie Danyliw, Director of Training & Program Development Women’s Center, Danbury, CT
