The Marriage of Airway and Passive Self-Ligation - Why is it a Perfect Match?

September 15, 2017 | Buffalo, NY

The treatment philosophy discussion on Damon™ Passive Self-Ligation has evolved over the last two decades. In the past, our discussions primarily focused on the quality of results and treatment efficiencies that can be achieved with low-friction/light-force mechanics. It is clear to us now that the lighter the force level, the more dramatic the dento-alveolar, airway, and tissue response. This is a profound benefit for our patients that goes far beyond straightening teeth.

In his presentation, Dr. Arthur Kammerman will review the biological advantages of passive self-ligation and present the light-force mechanics used in early treatment (without palatal expansion) complex Class I, Class II and Class III cases, deep bite, open bite and crowded cases both non-extraction and extraction. He will share the common denominators in these cases that will allow you to diagnose and treat your cases with confidence and efficiency. Dr. Kammerman will demonstrate the logical progression and specific principles that can be applied to each case with a favorable light-force, dento-alveolar remodeling response using primarily 2 oz. elastics.

Dr. Mary Burns will present her “Airway Assessment” through the clinical exam, medical and dental histories and the use of CBCT data. CBCT assessment of the TMJ and skeletal structures will be demonstrated. She will then present the spectrum of sleep disordered breathing and a review of current medical and dental literature. Finally, Dr. Burns will share comprehensive airway enhancement treatment strategies for you to incorporate into practice.

Join Doctors Kammerman and Burns on this ‘light-force airway journey’ that has allowed the profession to push the envelope beyond what was previously thought possible with a simple ‘orthodontic force system.’
