Think Money First! Certificate Program

Begins April 18, 2018
9:00 am - 12:30 pm
If we are to achieve real outcomes and positive social change in our communities, we must end the culture of scarcity that has plagued the sector for decades.
Think Money First! is an innovative, hands-on workshop that will transform how senior leaders and board members work and help them align their business models and fundraising strategies with their ability to deliver their mission and impact.
The program is built around the belief that staff and board leaders aligned in common purpose can transform social sector organizations. This certificate series will guide social sector leaders to maximize their ability to deliver high quality services to the most vulnerable constituents living in underserved, under-capitalized communities.
What You’ll Learn

The engaging certificate program will guide your organization’s leadership team through an intentional process of driving change. You will gain a deeper understanding of your organization’s business model and the need to build adaptive capacity. This will help ensure financial solvency, programmatic effectiveness and organizational sustainability.

To help ensure team engagement and a commitment to driving change, the program is designed so that the Executive Director and a Board member (preferably the Board Chair) or other senior staff member would attend all sessions together.
Featuring real world case studies and examples, this certificate series will help you and your team:
    • Assess and understand key pieces of financial data critical to making better, more informed decisions
    • Better understand the challenges of nonprofit finance and barriers to scale and impact
    • Identify ways to improve long-term sustainability

Program Components

  • 5 half-day workshops
  • Small group financial coaching sessions (virtual) between the monthly sessions
  • An online discussion board for questions or issues that arise between the sessions
  • There will be homework assignments between the sessions, and each participating organization must develop a financial project to implement either during and/or after the certificate program.

Course Dates

This program’s four sessions meet from 9:00am-12:30pm on the following dates:

April 18, 2018
May 30, 2018
June 27, 2018
July 25, 2018

Students must attend all four days and complete the course project to receive a certificate.
See Training Schedule for Course Outline.

Who should attend

This program is designed for organizations with budgets of $500,000 or greater, and who are ready to go to the next level of growth or development. Ideally, the executive director and the board chair or board member would attend together, but this is not required.  We encourage the executive director to bring a senior staffer at a minimum. This will ensure the greatest chance of implementing the strategies and practices learned during the program.
