New Zealand faces a number of deeply troubling ecosystem tipping points. Many of these are linked to the cumulative degradation of terrestrial, freshwater and marine habitats. They change the rules of the game, because once they are breached, ecosystems shift to a new and often less desired state. One of the most irreversible tipping points, species extinction, is facing much of our indigenous biodiversity.
EDS’s 2017 conference will reveal the extent of the threats to New Zealand and why they are happening. It will focus on what tipping points mean for resource managers, including regional, district and city councils, as well as resource-dependent industries such as tourism, farming and fishing. Importantly, it will explore solutions.
Being election year, the conference will engage with political party leaders to scrutinise their environmental policies. Delegates will also be given the opportunity to pitch their own ideas for uptake by the next administration.
So please join us for two thought-provoking days at New Zealand’s leading environmental conference.
