Tobacco-Related Diseases and Tobacco Cessation for Dental Professionals: A two-part webinar

During the two webinars, the presenters will review tobacco-related diseases and provide smoking cessation strategies to share with your patients including brief tobacco cessation techniques, medications, application to a dental practice setting and resources. The primary presenters will be a family medicine physician and a social worker, both with many years of experience in tobacco cessation counseling.

  • Articulate the impact of tobacco-related morbidity and mortality in systemic diseases
  • Discuss the effects of tobacco use on the oral cavity and periodontal health
  • Discuss nicotine dependence as a chronic disease, including key features of nicotine dependence
  • Discuss the “5As” of Tobacco Cessation

Brief Tobacco Cessation Techniques, Pharmacotherapy, and Team Dental Practice Approaches

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the core principles of motivational interviewing, communication techniques and patients’ readiness to quit
  • Identify the pharmacotherapy of over-the-counter nicotine medications & prescription non-nicotine medications, their mechanisms, dosages and adverse effects.
  • Articulate tobacco implementation in the dental office, dental providers’ roles, identify patients who are not ready & ready to quit through dental office setting video clips, be familiar with the insurance code and know the timing during a dental appointments

Attendance is complimentary for dental professionals - pre-registration is required.
