Applications are due December 1, 2011!
The Tragos Quest to Greece is an intense overseas experience that is unmatched in the fraternity world. Participants are stretched mentally and physically during their 10 days in Greece. Each scholar prepares for the trip with multiple books, and various ancient writings and plays. Once there, they get to see the very mountains and seas they study.
The undergraduates are joined by alumni mentors, and a professor who help lead scholastic discussions. In addition to the readings, other topics of discussion focus on personal experiences relating to SigEp’s core values. With a diverse pool of backgrounds, the group’s members challenge each other to think about their world differently.
Other highlights of the trip include a visit to the Parthenon in Athens, a walk through the Agora where figures like Socrates once roamed, studying the Ritual in Delphi, several hikes through the mountainous terrain, and plenty of authentic Greek cuisine.
Scholarships will be awarded to the most deserving current sophomore and junior brothers. Although chapter leadership positions are important to the application, no specific SigEp, campus or community involvement is required. The 2012 Tragos Quest to Greece scholars will be announced in February at their respective regional Carlson Leadership Academy.
International flights, tours, hotels, local transportation, and most meals will be covered by a generous grant from the SigEp Educational Foundation. Participants will be responsible for getting themselves to and from Chicago and incidental expenses. Participants should budget at least $400 for personal expenses in Greece.
This unique experience is made possible through the generosity of Bill Tragos, Washington in St. Louis '56, and his wife, Lilli. Their endowment allows for the continued emphasis on classic Greek philosophy, centered on the Balanced Man Ideal of developing a Sound Mind and Sound Body. Brother Tragos and his wife Lilli's gift will benefit SigEp and its brothers for years to come.
