Sustainability has emerged as an overarching concern for the transportation sector around the world. This international conference supported by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies will present thought-provoking examples of sustainability thinking, analysis and practice in the transportation field. The conference will especially promote approaches that adopt a holistic view on sustainability combining the key dimensions of sustainability (economic, social, and environmental) and addressing present and future needs. It will aim to stimulate debate on how such a view can be consolidated into practice and research. A central aim is to explore ways toward institutionalizing sustainable practices globally. The program will include technical discussions on sustainability concepts, tools and practices as well as plenary sessions that will include leading subject matter experts. Practitioners representing government, private sector, academia, business, and non-profit organizations from around the world as well as the United States are invited to participate in this conference.
