TREATMENT OF THE BABY

Event Overview

This  three-day  workshop, taught by Gail Ritchie- OTR, C/NDT, Pediatric NDTA OT Instructor,   is  designed  for   physical,  occupational,  and  speech  therapists   working  with  infants  from  birth  -  three  years   of  age  who  have  known or  suspected   neuromotor  disorders  such  as  Cerebral  Palsy.  A  major  emphasis will  be  placed  on  handling   techniques  and  treatment  strategies.  These  will  be   presented  through  lecture, extensive handling labs  and  patient demonstrations/discussion..  

Lecture  material  will  cover:
- Current  motor  control  research
- Assessment  and  treatment  principles  from   NDT  problem  solving  perspective  
-Typical  and  atypical  aspects  of  motor   development  for  postural  control,  gross  motor,   upper  extremity,  and  respiration
- Sensory  systems  as  related  to  the  developing   infant
-Discussion  regarding  parent/caregiver  home   programming  


Learning Objectives:

1) Detail 15 significant aspects of typical/atypical motor control development within the first year

2) Develop home program considerations to include 5 activities to support caregivers during this acute phase to their adjustment of caring for child with developmental issues

3) Explain 6 multiple dynamic system interactions in typical/atypical motor control

4) Discuss process for assessment of infants with neuromuscular and sensorimotor involvement

5) Articulate 10 treatment strategies learned during lab practicum to translate into your own daily practice of infants/young children


THIS COURSE IS APPLICABLE TO OT/OTA, PT/PTA, SLP/SLPA WORKING WITH THIS POPULATION.   PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF NDT PRINCIPLES IS RECOMMENDED.  THIS COURSE HAS CEU'S FOR NDTA RE-CERTIFICATION AND IS APPROVED FOR AOTA and ASHA CEU's AS WELL.  IF YOU NEED PT CEU'S, PLEASE CONTACT US WITH THE NAME OF YOUR STATE AT info@gomotm.com.  

Please note that this course is lab-intensive and requirements participants to bring with them an 18-24" soft-bodied  doll in order to practice handling techniques.
