TRMC Live Vaccine Consortium

Guidance on the Use of Live Vaccines in Solid Organ Transplantation

Thursday, February 22 - Friday, February 23, 2018

The Transplant & Regenerative Medicine Centre (TRMC) will be hosting a Live Vaccine Consortium at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids).  The goal of this innovative consortium is to develop an international consensus document that will guide the use of live vaccines after organ transplantation. While these vaccines were traditionally regarded as contraindicated after transplantation, an increasing number of centres are starting to vaccinate patients in an unstructured manner. SickKids will bring together world experts to develop a protocol that provides guidance on the use of these vaccines after organ transplantation. Such vaccines include the chickenpox vaccine which has the potential to prevent life-threatening varicella disease after organ transplantation.

Throughout the consortium there will be opportunities to take part and learn from experts in the field of solid organ transplantation, immunology and infectious diseases.  On Thursday, February 22; open Plenary Talks will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the PGCRL Auditorium. These talks will set the stage for discussions on protocol minimum standards to follow in closed breakout sessions.  The consortium will conclude with an open Interactive Panel Discussion on Friday, February 23 in the PGCRL Gallery led by visiting experts; Dr. Anita Verma from King’s College London, Dr. Klara Posfay-Barbe from University Hospital of Geneva and Dr. Lara Danziger-Isakov from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.  Agenda available via the menu to the left.
