Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) is a state-of-the-art, evidence-based treatment which offers clinicians an overarching approach for patients with personality disorder symptoms. While TFP is a product of psychoanalytic tradition, the treatment has important modifications making it of use to general clinicians today working with clients with these disorders.
By attending this workshop, you will be introduced to the “Structural interview”, an assessment tool to guide the therapist in treatment recommendations, with a video demonstration. You will move away from unfocused therapy by identifying specific treatment goals. You will be able to contract with patients before beginning treatment and renegotiate contracts with “difficult to treat” patients. You will gain the skills to manage the self-destructive and/or suicidal patient by channeling intense emotional states into the therapeutic setting so that they can be understood and mastered instead of being acted out.
