Wireless internet and charging stations will be available for conference use at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. Program Overview

Course Description:

The University of Rochester Division of Cardiology is gathering locally renowned experts to deliver updates in cardiology and to review current and best practices for treating patients diagnosed or symptomatic with cardiovascular disease. The symposium is designed to improve the primary care providers' confidence in the diagnosis and treatment of patients who have cardiovascular disease and will also provide the region’s primary care physicians, hospitalists, internists, cardiologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and other health care professionals with information to assist in better assessment and management of their cardiac patients.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Explain the role of primary preventive strategies in reducing CV illnesses.

  2. Describe the role of novel cholesterol lowering agents and novel diabetes drugs, and outcomes.

  3. Identify the state-of-the-art diagnostic trends and techniques for risk stratification and management of CV diseases.

  4. Discuss the newer primary preventive concepts related to diabetes, hypertension, and lipid abnormalities in reducing the burden of CV diseases.

  5. Explain the new guidelines (2017) for valvular heart disease, syncope, and atrial fibrillation.

  6. Describe the role of CV specialists in cardio-oncology practice.
