Description:

The unified protocol for the treatment of emotional disorders (UP; Barlow et al., 2018) is a transdiagnostic, emotion-focused cognitive-behavioral treatment approach that is used to treat specific cognitive, behavioral, and emotional difficulties that occur when clients experience mood and anxiety disorders. This workshop reviews the rationale for each intervention, followed by a demonstration of how to use each treatment module based on case examples. There are also opportunities for attendees to work in small groups, learning how to apply these concepts based on the clients they are currently working with.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn to develop a unified, transdiagnostic case conceptualization for clients experiencing mood and anxiety disorders
  • Participants will understand the rationale and application of emotion-focused cognitive and behavioural treatment concepts and strategies for each clinical presentation
  • Participants will learn to create effective, tailored emotion exposures for clients experiencing depression and complex comorbidities
