This program will focus on the interplay between occupational stress, physician burnout and a variety of health-related challenges to which practicing physicians are susceptible. The possibility of a mounting occupational health crisis in healthcare will be considered, and the interplay between individual factors, such as physician self-care and systemic factors, will be discussed. An alarming, recent study on the mounting toll of physician burnout will be reviewed, along with data suggesting that physician health correlates with patient outcomes. A variety of countermeasures will be reviewed.
