The primary source of the Zika virus disease in humans is via the bite of an infected mosquito. In May 2015, the Pan American Health Organization issued an alert regarding the first confirmed Zika virus infection in Brazil. Zika virus continues to spread across the globe, with active transmission occurring within the United States. Infant death has been attributed to Zika complications, including cases within the U.S. borders. Women’s healthcare is a critical area where the risks and consequences of Zika virus exposure is devastating for all involved. This 60-minute webinar, jointly provided by the Michigan Health & Hospital Association and Coverys, will provide up-to-date information for healthcare providers and facilities regarding the Zika virus epidemic, with special focus on women’s health concerns. The webinar will promote preparation for when/if a patient presents for healthcare who has been exposed to Zika and who may be or may become pregnant.
