Dear Members and Colleagues:
We invite you to register for the 28th Annual WVS Meeting, September 21-24, 2013 at the spectacular Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, AB, Canada. The location of this year’s meeting promises to be a spectacular one.
Although transportation offers minor challenges, the rewards and natural beauty in getting there and upon arrival are unsurpassed. The Society will offer group transportation from Calgary airport for those not driving or taking the train. The trip from Calgary promises to be as spectacular as the Jasper Park Lodge itself, offering glorious views of active glaciers. Please visit our 2013 Annual Meeting page of our website, www.vascularweb.org/wvs, for transportation options and other information. Updated information will be regularly posted on the site.
The 2013 Annual Meeting will begin on Sunday morning and run through Tuesday morning. We are working with Dr. York Hsiang, Local Arrangements Chair, to plan an entertaining social program and wonderful excursions highlighting Jasper and the beautiful surroundings of this year's meeting.
Major highlights of this year’s meeting include an opportunity for attendees to take two Self-Assessment courses that meet the ABS/VSB requirements for MOC. The Society has applied for CME for these courses, as well as the Annual Meeting and approval is pending. These focused courses include a Vascular Laboratory Review Course and a Symposium on Lower Extremity Arterial Disease, the Diabetic Foot and Wound Management. The Presidential Guest Speaker will be Dr. Spence M. Taylor, from the Greenville Hospital System and University Medical Center in Greenville, South Carolina who will speak on two topics: “Lower Extremity Arterial Disease: Allocating Resources and Producing Optimal Outcomes” and “ A Personal Journey in Leadership: The Process of Creating a New Medical School.”
The Western Vascular Society will continue to provide travel grants for Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows who are presenting in the Best Trainee Award presentations. Additionally, the Fellows Luminaries program will once again be held at the 2013 Annual Meeting and grants are available for this program. Please contact our Administrative Offices for additional information.
Please consider inviting friends and colleagues, including prominent Vascular Surgeons from Pacific Rim Countries and Canada, to attend this meeting as guests. This is a great way to introduce them to the membership.
If you would like to invite a guest to the meeting, please send a brief sponsorship letter with the name of your guest to Secretary-Treasurer E. John Harris email@example.com.
We look forward to an excellent scientific and social program and hope to see you in September.
Joseph L. Mills, Sr., MD, President
