Womanly Ways: Experiencing Tanzania

November 4–14, 2018

Delight in local villages, landscapes, activities to thrill the senses, and heaps of cultural experience.

On this trip to Africa, visit local houses and leisurely hike to an amazing waterfall accompanied by a local guide to teach us about the history along the way. Pick coffee, grind it, boil, it, and drink it to better understand the process and enjoy it with all five senses. Visit the Maasai in Arusha and take a beading class to encourage skill-sharing and cross-cultural conversations. Dine at local restaurants and spend evenings in elegant and charming, luxury boutique hotels.

Often referred to as "The Little Serengeti," spend time in Tarangire National Park known for both its diversity of wildlife and its varied landscape of rolling hills and golden savannah, generously dotted with acacias and baobab trees. Spend a night in a luxury safari tent with four-poster beds and large open plan bathrooms complete with large decks to enjoy the spectacular sunsets for which Tarangire is famous. Complete the Tarangire experience with a magical four-hour hot air balloon ride for a unique perspective of the wildlife below.

Next, head to the lush Ngorongoro Highlands where forests, monkeys, and lunch gardens are the norm. Drink great wine as you continue to build friendships that will last a lifetime. Make a day of it at the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Tanzania's most famous landmarks. From various vantage points, view the breathtaking landscapes and varied wildlife this region has to offer.

Complete your African adventure in an area in central Serengeti called Seronera, a world-famous area that supports a much greater diversity of resident wildlife than anywhere else in the Serengeti. Home to a plethora of large prey animals including elephants, giraffes, impalas, waterbucks, hippos, topis, reedbucks, buffalo, and baboons, these prey attract large predators such as lions, hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs. Keep a keen eye out for the smaller predators like the mongoose, jackal, serval, and bat-eared fox.
