Shade trees attract birds and other wildlife, lower energy costs, improve water quality by reducing runoff and erosion. Join us for Woody Plant Identification: Shade Trees and learn to identify and use thirty-five deciduous shade trees that are hardy in Reading, Pennsylvania.

To Be Covered

This six-hour course is designed to teach the identification and usage of thirty-five deciduous shade trees that are hardy in Northeastern Pennsylvania. For each plant we will discuss physical morphology, site requirements, landscape value, as well as any common insect pests or disease.

All participants will receive a full-color identification manual on shade trees.

Prerequisite

Please complete Module 1 of the Woody Plant Identification Advanced Certificate Program prior to the first class.

There are two parts to Module 1 - Taxonomy and Nomenclature & Plant Morphology.

Workshop Notes

This is a hands-on course that will be held outdoors, participants are asked to wear comfortable shoes, weather appropriate clothing, and to bring a lunch.
