Dates: January 30-31, 2019
Registration Fee: $100.00 per person
Venue: La Fonda on the Plaza 100 E. San Francisco Santa Fe, New Mexico
The purpose of this Workshop is to identify promising areas of research that can lower the cost and improve the performance and durability of non-aqueous flow Batteries. Currently the Energy Storage program at the DOE-Office of Electricity under the guidance of Dr. Imre Gyuk is focused on developing organic aqueous, Sodium ion and Zinc/Manganese oxide related Battery technologies. The expansion of this program into the promising area of non-aqueous flow batteries has the potential to lower costs and improve the performance by expanding the voltage window and utilizing charge carriers capable of supporting multi-electron redox couples. This workshop will bring together leading researchers in various areas of flow battery technology to discuss the status of charge carriers, electrolytes, membranes and flow battery designs.
The first part of the workshop will consist of talks in each of these key areas to outline the status of the technology and identify gaps. The second part of the workshop will involve deep dives into each of these research areas in order to identify specific challenges that need to be overcome to commercialize non-aqueous flow batteries.
This workshop will also include a section that will address standardization of cell design and testing procedures for flow batteries (both aqueous and non-aqueous). Currently with research in flow batteries expanding, there is a compelling need to standardized cell design and testing procedure in order to accelerate research and development in this field. The outcome of the workshop will be a report prepared for Dr. Imre Gyuk of the office of Electricity.
