Workshop on Sustainable Resource Conservation and Recovery in Transportation

There will be two optional tours held on Tuesday, July 16, after the conference program has ended. Tours not hosted by TRB; TRB is not responsible for these tours. No additional cost; transportation to/from the tour is on your own. Limited capacity.

Union Station Tour (3:30pm-5:00pm)

In 1907, the opening of D.C.'s opulent Union Station energized the city and forever changed how Washingtonians traveled. Over a century later, the station still buzzes with travelers, trains, and history. Union Station Redevelopment Corporation will host a tour that will introduce you to the secrets of this D.C. Daniel Burnham masterpiece. As you climb up steps and open doors into areas where the public is not normally granted access, you’ll also learn what's being done to preserve this venerable hub of D.C. transportation for years to come. Union Station is accessible from the Metro’s Red Line.

NOTE: This tour will be about 1.5-hours long and will consist of a considerable amount of walking.

Tour limited to 30 people.

Anacostia River Explorers Tour (6:00pm-8:00pm)

Explore the river while riding in an open-air motorized boat as part of the Anacostia River Explorers program. Anacostia Watershed Society staff will take participants on a two hour tour of the river while discussing natural and cultural history along with restoration efforts. You will experience the joy of being out on the water while observing this beautiful local area. The tour will depart from Diamond Teague Park, which is a ½ mile walk from the Navy Yard-Ballpark Station on the Metro’s Green Line.

Tour limited to 20 people.
