PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE 70TH ANNUAL MEETING
AT THE KNOXVILLE CONVENTION CENTER IN
JULY 31 - AUGUST 4, 2019
Welcome! We hope you will join us in celebrating IDAA's 70th Birthday!
We will meet at the Knoxville Convention Center (KCC) with lodging at two nearby hotels (Knoxville Downtown Holiday Inn at World's Fair Park and The Knoxville Hilton). We continue to take our annual meetings all over the US and Canada, and we look forward to seeing you in Knoxville! After all, Knoxville is within a day's drive for nearly half of the US population!
A reminder: "...we aren't a glum lot. If newcomers could see no joy or fun in our existence they wouldn't want it...we think cheerfulness and laughter make for usefulness...why shouldn't we laugh? We have recovered and have been given the power to help others. We are sure God wants us to be happy, joyous, and free."
(Alcoholics Anonymous, pg. 132-133)
Founded in 1949 by Dr. Clarence Pearson, he and his wife Polly placed an advertisement in The Grapevine and invited doctors and dentists to meet. Twenty-six hearty souls showed up, along with six hardier spouses, three non-physicians, and a psychologist. They met in Dr. P's garage, where he had spent many of his hardest drinking days and nights. Coca-Cola was the choice of beverage in the garage in 1949. Since that first get-together, IDAA has had meetings in all corners of the US and a couple of meetings in Canada. This year we will again be drinking soda, coffee, tea, and lemonade, and we will enjoy some birthday cake!
Recovery opportunities abound. Twelve Step Programs are offered for those in AA, Al-Anon, and other programs, and any IDAA members is invited to attend their choice of meeting. The family components of IDAA's annual meeting remains rich and vibrant. An Ala-tot Playroom will be available for wee ones accompanied by parents. We are grateful to Jerry Moe and his talented team (from the Hazelden Betty Ford Center), who facilitate our Children's Program for those 7-12 years of age. We are grateful for the sponsorship of Greg Boehm and Nancy Dunn-Boehm this year as Teen Sponsors for the IDAA Teen Program. The IDAA 20's Program will be available for young adults. We offer practitioners 10 hours of AAFP Prescribed CME and three hours of CDE. At least 20 different breakout meetings will be offered as well, so you can pick-and-choose the options that best suit your needs.
