Baltimore Washington International Airport, MD Meeting Planning Overview

Just 15 minutes from downtown Baltimore, 25 minutes to Annapolis and 40 minutes to Washington DC, Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is one of three airports serving the Baltimore and Washington DC area. With passenger traffic in the tens of millions each year BWI meeting and event venues have become one of the most sought-after commuter destinations for planners and organization throughout the country.

BWI boasts more than 700 arrivals and departures per day with over than 50 airlines offering service to the region. As major hub for Southwest Airlines BWI also offers service from carriers such as AirTran, American, Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines, US Airways, and United. Daily nonstop international service is offered their International Terminal to destinations like London, Toronto, Reykjavik, Mexico, and the Caribbean. BWI is also an East Coast stop for Amtrak and the Baltimore/Washington MARC train system at their BWI station.

As for meetings and events the BWI Region offers over 40 major hotel venues that include the 309-room BWI Airport Marriott, which has 18,000 square feet of meeting space; the 280-room Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport, with 12,000 square feet of space; and the 260-room Westin Baltimore Washington Airport, with 10,000 square feet of space. Other full-service properties in the area are the DoubleTree by Hilton BWI Airport, Embassy Suites Baltimore - at BWI Airport and the The Hotel at Arundel Preserve.

BWI venues for special events can be quite unique. Just on the Pre-Board side of the Main Terminal is Sky Azure, a contemporary lounge that can host a gathering of up to 200 for fly-in meetings and receptions. Minutes from the airport, unique meeting venues include the National Electronics Museum's, Pioneer Hall, which can accommodate up to 480, Maryland Live! Casino that features Rams Head Center Stage, a 4,850-square-foot venue that can accommodate up to 500 and the renowned Prime Rib restaurant, which can accommodate up to 250 for a banquet setting. Just minutes from BWI groups will find the largest outlet mall in Maryland, Arundel Mills, featuring over 200 stores, including designer name brand retailers. Arundel Mills is also home to Dave and Buster's, featuring their "Skyline Room" for meetings and banquets, along with a variety of team building options to choose from.

Along with their available meeting and banquet space, entertainment giant Maryland Live! Casino features 4,750 Las Vegas-style slot machines and electronic table games, including Blackjack, Roulette, Mini-Baccarat, and Pai Gow Poker. Popular with food lovers, Maryland Live! includes Bobby's Burger Palace by celebrity chef Bobby Flay, The Cheesecake Factory, Phillips Seafood, and The Prime Rib. Live! Market Buffet and Noodles, an Asian wok and noodle bar, round out the culinary options. Rams Head Center Stage at Maryland Live! features nightly live entertainment.

For group dining, planners can either take advantage of the area's proximity to Baltimore, where groups can enjoy dining along Inner Harbor; or they can explore the area around the BWI Region, which may yield some delicious surprises such as G&M Restaurant and Lounge, Arturo's Trattoria, and the dinner/theater options at Medieval Times.

Other attractions are also nearby in Howard and Anne Arundel County, such as the former mill town of Ellicott City, or historic Annapolis, Maryland's Capital City and our nation's first peacetime capital. Baltimore's Light Rail stops in the BWI Region and offers a short ride to Harbor Place, the National Aquarium and the many attractions in Baltimore City. Groups can also catch the Amtrak/MARC trains at BWI to the Nation's Capital of Washington, DC for a day of sightseeing.
