Citadel, mosque and bazaar

Situated near the centre of the city in the Muqattam Hills, the Citadel dominates Cairo’s skyline and was the nerve centre of the city and of Egypt for almost 700 years. Construction was begun by Saladin in 1176 and continued until the 1820s, when it wascompleted under Mohamed Ali. . It’s a place that is filled with rich history which encompassed residences, palaces and mosques for Mameluke Sultans and Turkish governors within its walls. Near Citadel there is the Khan El Khalili market, a must go to oriental bazaar that dates to the 14th century. While strolling through the ancient streets around the Citadel, you can visit also Sultan Hassan Mosque and the Khan El Khalili, as well-known Cairo bazaar that dates to the 14th century.

It’s an architecturally stunning arts center in El Azhar area in Central Cairo, operating under the Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Development Fund (CDF). Since finalizing restorations to the Wekalet in October 2005, it has become a hot-spot for organizing cultural events; the most popular being the El Tannoura dance performance where dancers make formations whirling around a central dancer, visually replicating the movements of the solar system while depicting the transformation of the human body into a divine conduit between Earth and the Creator. The show takes place inside a picturesque open courtyard of the 500-year-old Mamluk-era Al-Ghouri.

As well as the smaller pyramids of the princess and queens. You can also choose to venture inside a pyramid where you can enjoy a blend of architectural beauty and engineering complexity. From the pyramids, you'll make your way to the Solar Boat Museum, which houses a royal funerary boat believed to have transported the body of Khufu to the Great Pyramid, either symbolically or literally. It was found intact but excavated in pieces, and has since been reassembled, an endeavor that took 10 years to complete.
