Capitol Hill is the political epicenter of the U.S., with a prestigious address in the largest, most historic neighborhood of the city. The Capitol Building stands tallest among other important landmarks, such as the Supreme Court building, the offices of the Senate and House, the Library of Congress, the Marine Barracks and the Congressional Cemetery. It is the stomping grounds not only of lobbyists, senators and other high-profile government gurus, but also a dense population of locals who thrive on the unique qualities of the area. The inventory of Capitol Hill venues is expanding as the area undergoes a planned revival in the Capitol's River Front district just 5 blocks from the Capitol Building.
Served by Ronald Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International Airport, Capitol Hill meeting venues are easily accessible. Ground and public transportation, and most hotels, offer shuttle services.
The largest of Capitol Hill venues capable of conventions is the 41,000-seat National's Stadium, which is currently the main attraction of the developing Riverfront Community. Many retail, dining, entertainment, residential and hospitality tenants are popping up on the Riverfront, but hotels inventory is surprisingly small. The area is anticipating a spend of $8.8 billion to increase its current 204 hotel room inventory to 1,175 hotel rooms. (So far five small hotels dominate the riverfront and an undetermined amount will contribute to the 921 hotel room increase in the next few years.) Elsewhere in Capitol Hill, room inventory is not a problem as some of the largest and most prestigious DC hotels like the Hyatt Regency Washington Capitol Hill, Mandarin Oriental and L'Enfant Plaza Hotel are found here.
Eastern Market, an open-air flea market operates year-round on Capitol Hill and is dominated by produce and fresh meat stands with clothing, jewelry and furniture and art booths offering unique commodities. Its North Market Hall vacates during the week and boasts 3,500 square feet of premier event space, ideal for receptions, fundraisers, community events, meetings, and even weddings.
Groups lucky enough to meet in DC in the springtime can step onto Pennsylvania Avenue or stroll from the Capitol Building down the world-famous National Mall toward the Lincoln Memorial. They don't call it the most beautiful season in the city for nothing! Before the heat of summer kicks in, the city transforms into a picture of pure beauty for the weeklong Cherry Blossom Season. The 3,000 dainty pink and white cherry blossom-covered trees were a gift from Japan in 1912. Every year the Cherry Blossom Festival commemorates this historic moment in time and draws in more than one million admirers!
