Local Attractions

Brimstone Hill Fortress

Historical landmark
45 minutes away
Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of historical, cultural and architectural significance: a monument to the ingenuity of the British military engineers who designed it and to the skill, strength and endurance of the African slaves who built and maintained it. One of the best preserved historical fortifications in the Americas, it is located on the island of St. Kitts.

Indian Castle Race Track

Situated in Gingerland, it is run by the Nevis Turf and Jockey Club. Open on holidays for horse racing, beginning at 1:00 pm. Contact president Richard Luppinacci at (869) 469-2201 for more information.

The Mountain - Nevis Peak

Park
5 minutes away
Nevis Peak, perfect for hiking and mountain biking, is a potentially active volcano which is located in the center of the island of Nevis rising to a height of 3,232 feet and is the highest point on the island. There have been no eruptions since prehistory, but there are active fumaroles and hot springs on the coastal slopes of the island, and these represent low-level volcanic activity. At the lower levels of the mountain there is dry forest and humid forest, and then above that rain forest. At the top of the peak, which is covered with cloud most of the time, there is cloud forest, a montane habitat. On days when the peak is completely free of clouds, there are remarkable views from the top of the mountain, not only of Nevis itself, but also out over the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the many surrounding islands of the Leeward Island chain. The fauna of the mountain includes birds such as the Red-necked pigeon and the Bridled quail dove, as well as many troops of the African Green Vervet monkey, which was introduced in the historical past and has become naturalized.

Nisbet Plantation

Nisbet has a white coral sand beach with a coral reef in front of the property. Some of our guests spend all or part of a day there, snorkeling and enjoying lunch at their beach-side restaurant, Coconuts.

Museum of Nevis History/Hamilton House

Museum
Within a 5-minute drive of the Resort. The museum's collection features exhibitions on the history, culture and environment of Nevis, focusing on geology, the indigenous people, the contact period, leisure time, cooking and home craft, schools, churches, Jewish heritage, government and politics. There is a lovely, quiet courtyard looking out over the water. Located at the Alexander Hamilton Birthplace in Charlestown, the museum is run by the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS).

Montpelier Estate

Montpelier House was the site of Lord Nelson's marriage to Fanny Nisbet and her girlhood home. Nothing remains of the original house except the estate's entrance pillars, but it shares the grounds with the great house of Montpelier Plantation Inn, a sugar mill dating from 1794 and beautiful trees and gardens.

The Botanical Garden of Nevis

Museum
15 minutes away
The Botanical Garden of Nevis has incredible displays and collections of palms, orchids, cacti, flowering trees and shrubs. A gift shop and 1787 Bar and Bistro make this a wonderful place to spend an afternoon enjoying the plants, incredible views, dining and shopping. Situated at Cole Hill, Montpelier Estate in St. John's Parish.

Courthouse and Public Library

The Nevis Courthouse and Public Library was built in 1825 and is an imposing example of colonial stone architecture. Its windows stand open in a welcoming way and its first-floor shutters do double duty as the bulletin board for legal notices.
