The nation's 5th-busiest airport and world's 10th-busiest, Denver International Airport (DEN) is the international gateway to the American Rocky Mountains, serving more than 50 million passengers each year. Yet, in 1995, when Denver first re-located and expanded its airport northeast of downtown, the Metro area grumbled that 25 miles was much too far. At that time, the stretch of highway leading to DEN was missing a crucial part of its business – namely, hotels. Today, the surrounding arteries (Pena Boulevard, Tower Road and Airport Road) are now filled with dozens of hotels. Planners booking an airport hotel often are looking for fly-in/fly out meetings, and with transportation times often under 15 minutes, Denver airport meeting venues are the perfect option.
The largest of Denver airport meeting venues is the Crowne Plaza Denver International Airport, 12 miles from the airport. Boasting more than 70,000 square feet of meeting space, this meetings - friendly hotel accommodates up to 4,000. The meeting space consists of 19 breakout rooms, including the 50,000-square-foot Denver Airport Convention Center. Just 9 miles from the airport, the 227-room Denver Airport Marriott at Gateway Park is often the first airport meeting venue considered small to mid-size meetings. Accommodating up to 300, this meetings-friendly hotel offers 7,000 square feet of meeting space and 11 meeting rooms, including the largest at 3,200.
Aloft Denver International Airport is one of the newest arrivals to the Denver airport meeting venues, offering 1,500 square feet. It's a perfect stop for fly-in/fly-out executive meetings with its two boardrooms; plus, Aloft provides the brainstorming supplies: easels, flipcharts, and boards. (It also offers a laid-back, grab-&-go restaurant and bar for more networking.)
Many of the Denver airport venues offer limited, more intimate meeting space, perfect for executive board meetings or smaller groups. Planners might consider the following meeting venues in the Denver airport area: the Courtyard Denver Airport (2,900 square feet); the Embassy Suites –Denver International Airport (20,770); and the Hilton Garden Inn – Denver Airport (10,758).
When the meeting is over, planners can still offer convenient access to downtown Denver amenities, ranging from dining to theater, all within 30 minutes. Alternatively, planners can utilize the newly developed old airport area at Interstate-70 and Quebec/Northfield exit, located less than 15 minutes from DEN. The Shops at Northfield Stapleton is an open-air, pedestrian-friendly shopping, dining and entertainment complex, featuring specialty shops, and restaurants.
