The Zwinger is a building complex with gardens in Dresden. This synthesis of the arts consisting of architecture, sculpture and painting is one of the most important buildings of the Baroque period and, alongside the Frauenkirche, is Dresden's most famous monument. Its name Zwinger goes back to the term commonly used in the Middle Ages for a part of a fortress, although the Zwinger no longer fulfilled a function corresponding to its name when it was first built. The Zwinger was built from 1709 as an orangery and garden as well as a representative festival area. Its richly decorated pavilions and the galleries lined with balustrades, figures and vases bear witness to the splendor of the reign of Elector Frederick Augustus I (also known as "Augustus the Strong") and his claim to power. The museums of the Dresden State Art Collections are now waiting to be discovered in the Zwinger: the Porcelain Collection, the Old Masters Picture Gallery and the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments. In addition, small orange trees lend the Zwinger an additional Mediterranean charm from May to October.

The Dresden Residential Palace is a Renaissance building in the city center of Dresden. It was the seat of the Dresden court and the residential palace of the Saxon electors and kings.Dresden’s historic centre is studded with architectural highlights, and today it is hard to imagine that the Residenzschloss was reconstructed just a handful of years ago. Almost completely burnt out in the bombing of Dresden in February 1945, all that remained unharmed were a part of the palace’s Historisches Grünes Gewölbe (Historic Green Vault) and the basement rooms.

The Dresden Transport Museum is a museum in Dresden and displays exhibits on the history of the railroad, road transport, air transport and shipping on 5000 square meters of exhibition space. The transport museum was opened in 1956. The museum can also be hired for events.

The Dresden Striezelmarkt is a Christmas market in Dresden. It has been held in Advent since 1434, usually on the Altmarkt square, and attracts an average of around two million visitors every year. It is the oldest certified Christmas market in Germany

The Semperoper in Dresden is the opera house of the Saxon State Opera Dresden, which has a long historical tradition as the court and state opera of Saxony. The Semperoper is located on Theaterplatz in the historic city center of Dresden near the River Elbe. It is named after its architect Gottfried Semper.
