...Completed in 1912, the beaux arts-style Alberta Legislature building is more than just a place where laws are made and bills are passed. The grounds feature 56 acres of manicured lawns and gardens with more than 100,000 annuals planted yearly. During the warmer months, visitors can take advantage of fountains and wading pools, while winter brings a skating ring and brilliant light show as over 150,000 lights are strung throughout the grounds on trees and shrubs. As Edmonton's most exciting architectural masterpiece, the legislative building itself features a grand portico supported by large columns and a massive dome as the final crowning touch.
Guided tours run daily on the hour, May to October, beginning at 9 AM and on the half hour from 12:30 to 4 PM. Tours run Monday through Friday on the hour, mid-October to April, from 9 AM to 3 PM and on the hour Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 PM. Admission is free. Parking is available on the north and east sides of the grounds.

With a history that goes back to 1924, this exciting and ever-expanding gallery has changed locations a number of times and is currently in the process of building a new 85,000-square-foot facility that will open in late 2009. The gallery features a number of new exhibits each month by artists from around the world. The Art Gallery of Alberta is home to more than 5,000 works that include paintings, both ancient and contemporary, sculpture, photographic works and more. Visitors find new exhibits, such as Face the Nation: New Portraits of the Past by Contemporary Aboriginal Artists or Toti: Tour de France, a celebration of the bicycle races held every year in France, throughout the year.
The gallery is open Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 10:30 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM. Admission is C$5 for children ages 6-12, C$10 for adults and C$7 for seniors and students. Thursday admission from 4 to 8 PM is free.

Visitors can ice skate on the Victoria Park Oval in the winter, or run, rollerblade and cycle in the summer. A golf course, mini-golf course, picnic areas and cricket pitch are also in the park.
