Sea Lion Caves

Located less than two hours west of Eugene, Florence’s Sea Lion Cave is known as the world’s largest sea cave and home to wild sea lions and a variety of sea birds. Formed 25 million years ago and made of Basalt Rock, the cave’s height is equivalent to a 12-story building, while its length spans that of a football field. Visitors can descend into the cave’s viewing area by steps or an elevator. During the spring and summer, the sea lions can usually be found on the rocky ledges just outside the cave, while fall and winter weather normally brings them inside the cave. Gray whales frequently pass by the cave. The Sea Lion Cave is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Hult Center for the Performing Arts

Eugene’s Hult Center for the Performing Arts is home to six resident companies, which include the Eugene Ballet Company, Eugene Concert Choir, Eugene Opera, Eugene Symphony, Oregon Bach Festival and Oregon Festival of American Music. The center hosts more than 700 events each year and features a permanent art collection of paintings, masks, statues and other works. The center’s towering glass lobby, 2,450-seat Silva Concert Hall, gallery space and intimate 495-seat Soreng Theater with an asymmetrical design can all be reserved for private events.

Matthew Knight Arena

Unveiled in 2011, the Matthew Knight Arena is a 12,000-seat multi-purpose venue home to the University of Oregon Ducks basketball teams. The $227-million arena is a striking structure that features a clear glass exterior. Located on the east side of campus, the Matthew Knight Arena hosts concerts and events and features private clubs and spaces for group gatherings.

Sand Master Park

Located in Florence, Sand Master Park is the world’s first sandboard park. Home to 40 private acres of sculpted sand dunes and a 40-foot ramp, the park features slopes for beginner to advanced sandboarders. In addition to sandboard dunes, lessons and rentals, Sand Master Park features dune buggy tours, helicopter tours, ziplines, theme gardens and RV park camping. The park is also home to the largest sandbox in the state, perfect for sand sculpting and playing. Sand Master Park is open daily from 9 AM to 6:30 PM during the summer season, while off-season hours are Monday and Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from noon to 5 PM. Admission varies by activity.
